Various Artists - Blush On Black (1984)

Here's an almost unknown record featuring a nice collection of artists. Probably the most well-known song from this one would be Jullan's "Imaginary Doll", but the version here is (as far as I know) unique to this record, and the main reason I ripped this one. I think it's the best version of the song that exists. Jullan are quite the nice little duo, from Japan. More info and listens over at Saltyka's blog.

The rest of this record features a few nice synthy tracks, most of which sound pretty pop, but a nice listen all the same. Honorable mention to Zaine Griff and Fear Of The Dark. Enjoy!

Track List:

A1 - Pleasure In Pink - Run
A2 - Jullan - Imaginary Doll
A3 - Zaine Griff - Mental Pictures
A4 - Stranger Than Fiction - One Life
A5 - Duffo - And So It Rains
A6 - Fear Of The Dark - Love That Burns
B1 - Zaine Griff - Turn Out The Light
B2 - Pleasure In Pink - Turn To Fall
B3 - Duffo - I Want To Be The Pilot
B4 - Listen - Here Come The Rats
B5 - La La Bam Bam - Is It...?
B6 - Stranger Than Fiction - Breaking The Bond

OH, found at last!! Thanks for this LP, the minimal synth version of Imaginary Doll is definitely better than the single/LP ones.

I must admit I am shocked and surprised to see interest in this album. I was in the band La L Bam Bam and the album achieved absolutely nothing when it was released. I didn't have particularly high hopes for it's success but I sort of hoped that it may have served as some sort of showcase. Anyway C'est la Vie! I'm glad it served some purpose after all...

I was doing promotions and publicity for Zaine Griff when this album was released (and still am now!) and am happy to have a copy of this album. Beside Zaine there were many interesting artists on it. It's ashame it did not get much attention. The song Turn Out The Light from Zaine was - beside on this album - only to find on a B-side on one of his singles. Zaine made two great albums in those years: ASHES AND DIAMONDS and FIGVRES, with famous people coöperating and around him like Hans Zimmer (now most famous movie score composer), Takahashi (YMO), Kate Bush, Warren Cann & Midge Ure (Ultravox) and David Bowie. With Bowie Zaine rerecorded three Bowie songs. I uploaded many Zaine clips to YouTube. NOTE: Zaine just recorded a totally new album, to be out soon and will also re-issue his first albums on CD.
