Deathly Quiet! - The Next Step (1987)

Leave it to The Land Down Under to deliver us this creepy-crawly darkwave record. Not much info to be found on this Aussie band, I'm afraid. The only other release I'm aware of came a decade later in 1996, a self-release CD featuring a collection of home recordings. You can hear a few of those over here on their Myspace page. Phew, Myspace! We're really digging way back, deep into the underground now! Enjoy.

Track List:

A - The Next Step
B - Armageddon-READY

Yön - I Dream (1987)

Here we have a 7" that I consider to be one of the 'holy grails' of US minimal synth/wave. I know that term gets thrown around a lot, but this dark-tinged gem sure seems to qualify. It's extremely rare and I'm not sure too many people are aware of its existence yet. There's no cover sleeve version that I'm aware of, and the band members are listed as "Mr. M/Britain", which for me wasn't very telling. The record was released on Tekno-Wave Records in Texas, which has also been a dead end in my search for further info. I've been quite curious about this one so if anyone out there knows anything please speak up! I'll let the sound speak for itself here, instant winners on both sides. Enjoy!

Track List:

A - I Dream
B - Knowledge

Cunning Toy - Searching (1987)

I'm quite proud to present one of my favorite 12" records ever. Outstanding German synthpop that feels way ahead of its time. These gems are brought to you by a few of the same guys that created the ultra great New Scientists LP and 12". You can grab those from my earlier post, here. Needless to say, this record is extremely rare.

This actually sounds quite similar to how DM sounded around the same time. Maybe it's just a coincidence... In any case, it really captures and defines the sound of German synthpop from the mid/late 80s into the very early 90s. Certainly amongst the best of the bunch. I promise, you don't want to miss this one. Enjoy!

Track List:

A1 - Searching
B1 - My Submission
B2 - Kiss Of Life

Horsemen - Mr. Sunrise (1987)

Here we have one of the few projects by the brilliant Norwegian artist, Tor Dybdahl. Also involved in one of my first posts, Clockwork Orange (as well as Downers and The French Connection). All of the aforementioned are featured on an absolutely brilliant LP called "The Temptation Tapes Vol. 1" on Hommage Records. Trust me it's totally worth buying, you can order it here. In any case, this is a true gem from my favorite Norwegian artist. Enjoy!

A - Mr. Sunrise
B - And I Wish...

Black Letter Day - The Screaming (1987)

Great & rare synth wave 7" out of Sweden on Platina Records, the same label as my very first post here, as well as another 7" that I would really like to get the b-side track of... that being The Gift's "In A Far Away Kingdom". The track is called "Johnny", anyone out there have it? Anyway, both Black Letter Day tracks are quite good, really gloomy synth wave on the title track, and a nice upbeat synthpop track on the b-side. Enjoy!

A - The Screaming
B - So Long

Tora Tora - Antinéa (1987)

This is an amazing 7" out of France that will grab you in the first few seconds. Really compelling, dark, and beautiful synths with female vocals. These are existing mp3s I've had sitting around, and the quality is good on the A-side (which is the better track) and decent on the B-side, but when I'm feeling a bit less lazy I'll re-post a better rip. For now this should do fine. Enjoy!

A - Antinéa
B - Bébés Athées

Ladomir - Discography (87-09)

Ladomir are a new wave / post-punk / synthwave band which originally formed in Helsingborg, Sweden in 1984. The band moved to Gothenburg in 1985, played a lot of gigs around Sweden and released 3 singles, all of which are below (my favorite is probably Laika). In 1988 the band broke up, but reunited in 2006. They released a brand new, full-length album in 2009 (which I will post, as they've made all tracks available for free online). Let me tell you, we should be very grateful they did, as it is truly fantastic! Just listen to "Under Noll", "Inte En Hund", and others. The entire album is a brilliant blending of styles and instrumentation, really.

First, the singles:

Inför Min Dom (7") (1987)

Les Ziglous - Fou D'Amour (1987)

Updated info received: This was not created as a wedding gift as previously stated here and elsewhere. I have been contacted with the following info:
A group of friends wrote and recorded Fou d'Amour in 1987 in the north of France. One of them was a musician with a small music studio. It was an independent production, not assigned to any record label. They were interviewed on local radio about the song and the inspiration. A freelance illustrator friend designed the cover and another friend took the photo of the group (on back cover).
Thanks for the update, Nicola! Enjoy.

Sacred Moment - Symphony (1987)

Another rare minimal synth 7" out of Sweden, this time by Sacred Moment. Once again this is (sadly) the bands only release. This record is a bit more bass/guitar oriented than the last post, but still plenty of synth-driven melody to accompany the dark, melancholic tone. Enjoy.

Track List:

A - Symphony
B - In Uniform
